Safe Weight Loss for Kids

A child’s body is very different from an adult’s. It is still growing and requires higher quantities of certain vitamins and minerals. A deficiency can have negative long term effects that the child will carry with them into adulthood. Weight loss for kids is not the easiest thing for parents to deal with, especially when you factor in the self esteem issues that can accompany obesity. The best solution is to make the process fun for the child.  This can alleviate emotional stress on your little one while working towards a healthier physical state.

A Safe Eating Plan for Children
For safe weight loss for kids an eating plan should be your first step. As a parent, you should be aware of what your child eats each day. Evaluate these items and look for high fat, high sugar and high calorie foods.  Cut these foods out and try replacing them with healthier options. Many healthy foods still taste great. Fruit is an excellent choice to replace sweets while low fat crackers can help curb carb cravings. Three solid meals each day are also important. A skipped meal could play havoc on your child’s metabolism.  The human body has a survival mechanism that kicks in when it thinks we are starving. A body that reverts to this “starvation state” will begin hoarding fat. Long ago, this worked well when food sources were scarce. Today, this same survival tactic can harm your child’s diet. Make sure he or she is eating on schedule to avoid this frustrating problem.














Exercise by another Name
Exercise must be included in your weight loss for kids plan.  Much as many adults and youths dislike working out, you simply must condition your body to burn fat and get trim. The best approach when dealing with a children’s workout is to make a game of it. Rather than call it exercise, try playing tag or hide and seek.
Make it even more exciting by inviting a few friends over for these fun “workouts.”  Any game that requires physical activity is ideal. Your child will be motivated to continue playing and pushing their physical abilities when others are involved in the game.


Weight Loss “Boosters”
A note should be made here that it is highly inadvisable for parents to give their children commercially produced weight loss drugs or other gimmick diet aids. These can be hard on the body, even for adults. Plus, children should not be encouraged to turn to medication for a solution to their body issues. Instead, stick with the old fashioned plan of weight loss for kids unless otherwise directed by a physician.


Hidden Pounds in your Child’s Diet
When looking for safe weight loss for kids keep an eye out for hidden sources of sugar and calories lurking in your child’s diet. Beverages should be monitored just as closely as foods. Avoid soda pop and the many sugary drinks produced for children. Even fruit beverages that are labeled as “healthy” or “diet friendly” can be counter productive because they sometimes contain high amounts of sugar. Your safest bet is to provide your child with large quantities of water to drink. This will flush their body of toxins while helping them lose weight faster.

Your child’s health is very important. The habits he or she learns now will carry over into adulthood. Give your little ones a good start in life by helping them achieve optimum health. Do not over complicate the process with gimmick diets; instead stick with a traditional weight loss for kids plan.
